Everest

A vast gorge carved over five to six million years by the Colorado River in northern Arizona, stretching 277 miles long, up to 18 miles wide, and over a mile deep. The exposed rock layers document nearly two billion years of Earth's geological history in visible cross-section. It was designated a National Monument in 1908 and a National Park in 1919. More than five million people visit annually, though most see only the South Rim. The canyon has deep cultural and spiritual significance for several Indigenous tribes including the Havasupai, Hopi, Navajo, and Zuni peoples.
